Summary

Destrehan High School is a large, high-performing public high school in Destrehan, LA, serving 1,435 students in grades 9-12 and is a flagship school within the highly-ranked St. Charles Parish school district.

Destrehan High School stands out as the highest-ranked traditional comprehensive high school in the region, earning a 5-star rating and ranking 27th out of 325 high schools in Louisiana (92nd percentile). This significantly outpaces its district peer, Hahnville High School (ranked #64), and far exceeds nearby schools in Jefferson Parish and St. John the Baptist Parish, which typically rank in the bottom half of the state. The school achieves superior academic results across all subjects, with proficiency rates in Biology (83%), Geometry (82%), and English II (80%) that are 5-15 percentage points higher than Hahnville's. Notably, Destrehan achieves exceptional results for all student subgroups, earning 5-star ratings for its work with Female Students, African American Students, White Students, English Language Learner (ELL) Students, and Special Education Students. Its performance with ELL students ranks 2nd in the entire state, demonstrating a school-wide culture of equity and effective instruction.

Destrehan also boasts a low chronic absenteeism rate of 8.4%, dramatically lower than the state average (22.5%) and nearby schools like Riverdale High School (24.7%), Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School (41.6%), and East St. John High School (34.0%). While the school's graduation rate has dipped slightly to 86.1% (below the district average of 89.3%), this is a minor blemish on an otherwise stellar record. For context, nearby Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy is a selective magnet school, making Destrehan's high performance as a non-selective, comprehensive public school even more impressive. For families seeking a high-quality traditional public education in the western suburbs of the New Orleans metro area, Destrehan is a clear "school of choice."

Open Quote I've been to several diffent schools in different states and parishes. This school was my all time favorite. The teachers actually care about the well being of everyone. I had to take a lot of time off durring school and my teachers worked one on one with me after school and durring they're off periods and lunches. Close Quote
