Summary

Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy is a public magnet school in Avondale, LA, serving 871 students in grades 6 through 12, and it stands as an academic powerhouse within the Jefferson Parish school district. This school consistently achieves elite results, ranking #2 in Louisiana for the 2025-2026 school year and earning a 5-star rating, a stark contrast to nearby schools like Strehle Community School, which ranks near the bottom of the state. With near-100% proficiency rates in math, English, and social studies, Patrick F. Taylor far exceeds district averages (e.g., 54% in math) and state averages, making it a top choice for families seeking rigorous academics.

What truly sets this school apart is its exceptional performance across all student groups, including those from low socio-economic backgrounds, where it ranks #3 in the state. The school boasts a near-zero dropout rate (0.0%) and an incredibly low chronic absenteeism rate of just 3.9%, compared to district averages of 21.5% and state averages of 22.5%. This level of student engagement is unmatched in the area—for instance, John Ehret High School has a 38.2% chronic absenteeism rate, while L.W. Higgins High School sits at 58.2%. The school’s consistent top-tier performance over more than 15 years reflects a deeply embedded culture of high expectations and effective teaching.

For parents, this school offers a unique opportunity for a focused, high-achieving environment, especially when compared to other local options like Fisher Middle/High School, which is strong but not at the same elite level. While the Jefferson Parish district overall ranks in the bottom half of the state, Patrick F. Taylor acts as an academic island of excellence, providing a pathway to top-tier education for motivated students. Its magnet status means admission is selective, but for those who attend, the results are clear: near-perfect test scores, zero dropouts, and a community where every student is set up for success.

Open Quote Patrick Taylor is a great school. I am a senior this year, class of 2011. This is my 6th year here, and I would not trade any single one of those years for a year at another school.
We are a 5 star school and a 2010 nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school. What more do you need to know to see how great of a school we are?
Also, we are so small that it is really like a amily environment. Close Quote
