Summary

Jefferson RISE Charter School is a public charter high school serving grades 6-12 in Harvey, Louisiana, with 742 students. The school is part of the Jefferson Parish school district, which is ranked 73 out of 118 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being a charter school, Jefferson RISE consistently underperforms the Jefferson Parish and Louisiana state averages on LEAP assessments across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates were 41% in Math and 62% in ELA, compared to 52% and 62% for the district, and 60% and 70% for the state. The school's 4-year graduation rate has fluctuated between 71.6% and 88.7% over the past few years, which is below the state average, and its dropout rate has ranged from 0.7% to 8.4%, which is higher than the state average. Additionally, the school has a high chronic absenteeism rate between 21.4% and 25.2%, indicating a potential issue with student engagement and attendance.

Interestingly, while Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies, Fisher Middle/High School, and Sophie B. Wright Institute of Academic Excellence generally outperform Jefferson RISE Charter School, the school performs relatively better for certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic and English Language Learner students, who rank in the top half of the state. This suggests that the school may be able to leverage its strengths in supporting these subgroups to improve overall academic outcomes.

Open Quote Jefferson Rise has been damaging for me in so many ways. I don't feel like a have a voice and I don't really feel cared about in this system. Me and other students have had a problem with a racist student who uses the n-word and attends this school, and her mom who just so happen to work there. Not a day goes by that I don't feel stressed at this school. The curriculum is horrible and I don't feel like I'm learning. Just being overloaded with work and homework. I can't wait to leave. Open Quote I feel Jefferson rise takes away too much freedom of character, and rights as a person a a child. It not like any other school at all, very similar to a elementary school, no schedules or periods, lunch is horrible. If you put your child there expecting a normal middle school experience let that go! I wish I would have never spent my middle school years hear. It’s easy to get in in trouble for literally nothing !! They will write you up, suspend you, do anything with out any care wheather you deserved it or not. Close Quote

Open Quote Jefferson RISE provides quality instruction to a diverse body of students from the community. Academics are rigorous and students are pushed hard to learn and be the best person they can be. Expectations are high and results from students are pretty incredible! Close Quote
