Summary

Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy is a public charter school serving grades PK-12 in Kenner, Louisiana, part of the Jefferson Parish school district. With 2,303 students, the school focuses on health sciences and consistently outperforms the district and state averages on standardized tests.

Kenner Discovery's academic performance is particularly impressive, with 83% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts compared to 62% in Jefferson Parish and 70% statewide. In math, 66% of Kenner Discovery students were proficient or better, surpassing the 52% district and 60% state averages. The school also boasts high graduation rates, ranging from 71.6% to 93.3% in recent years, and low dropout rates, outpacing the district and state.

While Kenner Discovery faces some challenges, such as higher chronic absenteeism rates than the state average, it stands out among nearby alternative and charter schools. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Charter School and The Willow School have significantly lower test scores, suggesting that Kenner Discovery is providing a more rigorous and effective educational experience for its students, even with a high proportion of economically disadvantaged learners.

Open Quote My children go to this school, so did my older children. The only thing I can say good about it is, at least I can help them learn when they get home, I get to spend a lot of time with them, teaching them the things they should have learned in class, but with the school being the way it is, they (my children) are more concerned with being picked on and/or bullied!!! As for the principal... YOU SHOULD BE FIRED!!! The Assistant Principal is a much more qualified and all-around better person for the job!!!! Close Quote

Open Quote If you want your child to get the most horrible education... GO TO MAGGIORE!
If you want your child to be put down by cafeteria staff and Principal.... GO TO MAGGIORE!
If you want to go where parents don't care about their children.... GO TO MAGGIORE!

The ONLY positive things are that MOST of the teachers there CARE! BUT due to Principal having the WORST people skills the teachers CANT provide a good and safe place for the children to learn. Don't try and reach out to the school board either... THEY DO NOT RETURN YOUR CALLS.

RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS SCHOOL!!!!!!!! Close Quote
