This French-immersion school consistently outperforms the state of Louisiana on standardized tests, with 82% of students projected to be proficient or better in English Language Arts and 71% in mathematics, compared to 70% and 60% statewide, respectively. The school also maintains high graduation rates, ranging from 82.7% to 84.0%, and low dropout rates, from 0.0% to 4.3%, which are better than the state averages.

However, Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 8.0% in 2022-2023 to 24.6% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the state average. Additionally, the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch has increased from 33.4% in 2021-2022 to 53.81% in 2023-2024, indicating a growing population of economically disadvantaged students. Compared to nearby schools, such as Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy and Dr. Martin Luther King Charter School for Sci Technical, Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans consistently outperforms them on academic measures, while also maintaining a lower student-teacher ratio.

Overall, Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans stands out as a high-performing school in the New Orleans area, with strong academic outcomes and a unique French-immersion curriculum. However, the school's increasing chronic absenteeism and changing demographic profile may require it to adapt its support services and resources to continue serving its students effectively.

Open Quote Do not be fooled by the “premiere French school” branding. LFNO is unsafe, unorganized, and unprofessional. They fail to notify parents of incidents — I only ever find out weeks later from my kids. When my daughter was dropped off a few minutes early, staff sent her outside unsupervised.

When I raised concerns, the co-principals called me and were patronizing and dismissive, denying everything and even suggesting my daughter was lying. Both of my daughters have been physically assaulted and racially insulted on the bus, and yet those students were still allowed to ride.

Meanwhile, many beloved teachers have been fired and many more quit because of toxic leadership. Add constant turnover, terrible locations, and unsafe practices, and you get a school parents should avoid at all costs. Close Quote
