Summary

Riveroaks Elementary School is a public school in Baton Rouge, LA, serving 492 students in grades PK-5 as part of the East Baton Rouge Parish school district, with 66.67% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch. This school is in the midst of a dramatic turnaround, jumping from the 29th to the 48th percentile statewide in the 2025-2026 school year—its highest ranking in over a decade—making it a standout for recent academic growth compared to nearby schools like Audubon Elementary School and Park Forest Elementary School, which have seen stagnant or declining performance.

Riveroaks excels in mathematics, with 65% of students proficient—10 points above the district average and 3 points above the state average—and significantly higher than neighbors like LaBelle Aire Elementary School (33%) and Twin Oaks Elementary School (61%). The school also shows exceptional support for English Language Learners, ranking in the 74th percentile statewide, and has a low chronic absenteeism rate of 19.4%, well below the district average of 30.5% and lower than nearby schools like Villa del Rey Elementary School. However, a key weakness is 3rd-grade English Language Arts, where only 49% of students are proficient, 15 points below the state average, a common challenge in the area.

Interestingly, 4th graders at Riveroaks significantly outperform other grades, with 76% proficient in math and 70% in ELA, suggesting a strong cohort or teaching team. While Greenbrier Elementary School, located 3.3 miles away, achieves higher overall test scores despite a higher poverty rate (88.33% free/reduced lunch), Riveroaks’ rapid improvement and strong subgroup performance make it a compelling choice for parents seeking a school on an upward trajectory with targeted support for diverse learners.

Open Quote This school is extremely well organized. There are a very high number of English Language Learners from Non-English speaking families, so standardized testing may be skewed lower than what would be expected due to many first and second year language learners. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is horrible. I took my daughter(grade k) out to homeschool, which broke my heart being that she is so social. She will be going to a different school next year. Her teacher was great, however the staff is extremely unprofessional and rude. Many times she was sent home sick or hurt without any phone calls. Every time I spoke with the administration, they were rude. When I pulled her out to homeschool the principal threatened me with calling the authorities on me with truency all becuase she didnt understand how the process worked. While I was waiting to meet with her another mom was in there to talk about her son being bullied at which point the principal refused to speak with her at that time "because she didnt want to fight in front of the child" The mother was not fighting or even rude. She just wanted to talk. Also, at ceremonies it became chaotic at the end because they didn't discipline the kids. Another thing, when one of the kinder teachers quit, they split up the kids adding more students and more stress to the existing k teachers just because the principal "felt they were doing good and could handle it."
