Summary

Lakeside Primary School in Prairieville, LA, is a PK-5 elementary school with 545 students in the highly-rated Ascension Parish school district, which is ranked 9th out of 116 districts in Louisiana. This school stands out for its exceptional English Language Arts (ELA) performance, with 84% of students proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—14 points above the state average and 2 points above the district average. Lakeside has also shown remarkable consistency, ranking in the top 17% of elementary schools statewide for the past five years, and it boasts a compelling turnaround story, jumping from the 47th percentile in 2017-2018 to sustained high performance ever since.

One of Lakeside's most impressive achievements is its outstanding support for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Despite 61.65% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, these students ranked in the 88th percentile statewide, placing the school in the top 12% for serving this subgroup. This is a powerful indicator of equity and effective instruction. However, the school operates in a competitive neighborhood, often called the "Prairieville Paradox," where nearby schools like Prairieville Primary (97th percentile) and Galvez Primary School (90th percentile) rank higher overall. Compared to Galvez, Lakeside has a higher percentage of low-income students but a lower student-teacher ratio (12.2:1 vs. 14.8:1), suggesting more individualized attention.

While ELA is a clear strength, mathematics is a relative area for growth, with 74% of students proficient—12 points above the state but 3 points below the district average, particularly in 4th and 5th grades. The school has also made dramatic progress in reducing chronic absenteeism, slashing it from 16.8% in 2023-2024 to 11.7% in 2024-2025, nearly half the state average. Notably, performance for White students has been weaker, ranking in the 74th percentile in 2025-2026 and dropping to the 50th percentile in 2024-2025, which is an outlier for a school that otherwise excels with diverse subgroups. Overall, Lakeside Primary is a strong, equitable school with a focus on literacy and a track record of continuous improvement.

Open Quote If I could rate this school nothing I would. Not a single teacher seems happy as well as the front office staff. They don’t have a nurse on staff. The receptionist is half receptionist half nurse. She did dealing with sick kids as well as dealing with parents and phone calls. The principal could care less about parents teacher issues. The assistant principal will have every excuse she can think of for her teachers to back them up. Close Quote
