Summary

Lake Elementary School in Saint Amant, LA, is a large, high-performing public school serving 1,096 students from Pre-K through 8th grade in the Ascension Parish district, and it has consistently earned a 4-star state rating for the past decade, ranking in the top 20% of Louisiana elementary schools.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in Social Studies, where 76% of students were proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—well above the state average of 55% and outpacing nearby schools like G. W. Carver Primary School (55%) and Gonzales Primary School (56%). Because Lake Elementary serves grades through 8th, it also shows strong upper-grade results: 8th graders achieved 70% proficiency in Math and 85% in ELA, both significantly higher than district and state averages. The school is particularly effective with African American students, ranking in the top 10% of all Louisiana schools for this subgroup. Additionally, Lake Elementary has a strong advanced academics program, as evidenced by 100% of students who took the Algebra I End-of-Course exam in 2023-2024 being proficient, far exceeding the district (79%) and state (62%).

While Lake Elementary is a strong school, it is not the top performer in the area. Prairieville Primary School ranks in the 97th percentile with 91% Math and 92% ELA proficiency, but it serves a less diverse student population with a lower free/reduced lunch rate (37.5% vs. Lake’s 45.5%). Lake Elementary’s chronic absenteeism rate of 11.2% is a strength, though it is part of a district-wide trend where most nearby schools, like St. Amant Primary School (8.7%), also have rates well below the state average of 22.5%. The school’s overall stability is notable, but performance with subgroups like Special Education students has fluctuated, dropping from the 86th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 59th percentile in 2025-2026, suggesting some inconsistency in targeted support.

Open Quote I have 3 children in that attend Lake Elementary (I also attended primary school there as a child). One is going to 5th grade and two are going to 2nd grade. My husband and I stay very involved with our children's schooling and so we really haven't had any problems with any staff. There will always be a teacher, office worker, etc. that you don't really connect with- that's at any school; however, the 6 years (pre-k) we've been dealing with Lake Elem. there have been by far way more positive experiences than disappointments. All of the teachers have been cooperative and understanding of any needs my children have had. This year (2014) was the start of the new CORE curriculum and I think the staff at Lake did a great job getting the kids on board and making the huge load down of education as entertaining & fun learning for the kids as possible. The school ranks high in the whole state of Louisiana and we have always been grateful to live in the school zone of Lake Elementary! Close Quote

Open Quote This is by far the worst school I have ever been to. The staff are very unwelcoming, the old saying goes if you aren't in the click then you aren't in and that's how this school is run, from administration to the student body, not to mention the principal won't even return a phone call and teachers are hanging up on parents because we question a test and the answers. Our family relocated here and while looking for housing we were told that this area had the best school in the parish, however we are seeing that isn't so true, state testing doesn't define the school the people do and this school is awful, and we are trying to remove our children from this place asap.
