ZIP code 42301 has 18 schools: nine elementary, three middle and six high schools, serving students from elementary through high school. The results include KSA proficiency scores for 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, along with SchoolDigger rankings and selected school measures. Results vary sharply even among schools serving the same grade: for example, fourth-grade reading ranges from 36% to 80%. The most important takeaway is that families will find very different results depending on the school and subject.

Owensboro Innovation Middle School is the clearest standout: it led the listed middle schools in math and reading in all three tested grades, and its eighth-grade social studies score was 66%, compared with 29% at Owensboro Middle School. Among elementary schools, Tamarack Elementary School led in fifth-grade math at 66%, while Audubon Elementary School led in fifth-grade reading at 78% and writing at 63%; West Louisville Elementary School had the highest fourth-grade reading score, 80%. At the lower end, Cravens Elementary School scored 17% in fifth-grade math and 11% in writing. High-school reading also differed widely: Apollo High School scored 70%, versus 12% at Heritage Park High School.

Recent changes are mixed: middle-school scores rose about 2 points on average, while elementary scores fell about 1 point and the two conventional high schools fell about 3 points. Innovation rose about 10 points across matched scores; Sorgho Elementary School and West Louisville each gained about 8 points, while Tamarack fell about 6. SchoolDigger ranked Innovation at the 89th percentile in 2025–2026, up 30 percentile points from 2023–2024; Tamarack ranked at the 85th percentile, down 11 points. School measures offer context, not explanations: in 2024–2025, the reported free/reduced lunch eligible measure was 89% at Foust Elementary School and 88% at Cravens, while Owensboro Innovation Middle School had 311 students and a 16.3 student-teacher ratio compared with Owensboro Middle’s 790 students and 12.7 ratio.
