F T Burns Elementary School serves 440 students in PK–5 in Daviess County, in the Owensboro area. Its latest results show a mixed academic picture, with mathematics stronger than reading. The sharpest concern is 5th-grade reading: 44% of students were proficient, 13 points below the nearby-school average and 15 points below the district.

Mathematics is the school’s strongest subject compared with nearby schools, the state and the district: 51% were proficient across grades 3–5, versus 47% at nearby schools, 43% statewide and about 50% in Daviess County. Reading was weaker overall, at 49%, compared with 53% nearby, 50% statewide and 56% in the district. Fourth-grade reading was a bright spot at 59%, above the nearby average of 52%, but the 5th-grade result was among the lowest nearby. In other tested subjects, Burns was at or near the state average in science and social studies, while editing and mechanics was 12 points below the district.
