Summary:
High schools in ZIP code 40330 include three schools serving 810 students: two schools serving grades 9–12 and one serving grades 6–12. Mercer County Senior High School enrolls 748 students, compared with 51 at Mercer Central and 11 at Mercer County Day Treatment. The most important finding is that results differ sharply between the two grade 9–12 schools, rather than being consistent across the ZIP code.
Mercer County Senior stands out academically: in 2025–2026, it scored 46%–58% proficient across six subjects and was above the state in all six, by 3–13 percentage points. Mercer Central had lower results in every subject with scores reported for both schools: it trailed Senior by 19–39 points. Central’s four exact scores were also 10–27 points below the state. Day Treatment’s test scores were suppressed, so its academic results cannot be compared here. Attendance also differed: chronic absenteeism was 16% at Senior and 53% at Central in 2025–2026, a 36-point gap.
Senior remains ahead, though its scores eased overall: its six-subject average moved from 50% in 2024–2025 to 48% in 2025–2026, while its average lead over the state narrowed from 11 to 8 points. Writing fell 7 points and Social Studies 5, while Editing and Mechanics rose 4; Science was unchanged. SchoolDigger’s ranking percentile fell 4 points at both Senior (85th to 81st) and Central (13th to 9th), though Senior remained much higher. School contexts differ, but the figures do not show that those differences explain results: in 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios were 17.3 at Senior, 12.7 at Central and 11 at Day Treatment. Free/reduced lunch eligible shares that year were 56% at Senior, 78% at Central and 73% at Day Treatment. Senior also reported a 97% graduation rate in 2025–2026, compared with 94% statewide; no school-to-school graduation comparison is available for Central.
