Summary

Camargo Elementary School in Mount Sterling serves 597 students in prekindergarten through grade 5 and is the largest of the 11 schools in the comparison. It is in Montgomery County. The most immediate concern is chronic absenteeism: although it has declined, Camargo’s latest rate remains well above the state and district rates.

Camargo’s reading results are its relative bright spot, while writing is its clearest weakness compared with the state, district and nearby Montgomery County schools. Across grades 3–5, reading proficiency averaged 48% at Camargo, compared with 50% statewide, 54% in the district and 56% at the other three county schools. Fifth-grade writing was lower: 24%, versus 35% statewide, 40% in the district and 45% at nearby schools. Chronic absenteeism fell from 52% in 2022–23 to 36% in 2025–26, yet remained above the state’s 24% and the district’s 33%; only Crossroads Elementary School had a higher rate among the 11 schools. Most subject averages also declined between 2022–23 and 2025–26, including writing from 31% to 24% and science from 36% to 31%.
