Summary

Troy High and Middle School serves 150 students in grades 6–12 in Troy, Kansas. Its 2025–26 proficiency rates were 33% in English Language Arts (ELA), 23% in math and 18% in science. The most important concern is that results were below state rates in all three subjects, with especially weak science and upper-grade math performance.

ELA is Troy’s strongest subject compared with nearby schools: 33% of students were proficient, compared with 23% at Atchison High School, 33% at Doniphan West Junior/Senior High School and 32% at Riverside High School. Still, Troy was 13 points below the state and 8 below Troy Public Schools. Science was its weakest subject against peers: Troy scored 18%, versus a nearby-school average of 23%, and was 20 points below the state. Math was 23%, 18 points below the state and 11 below its district—the largest district gap. Tenth-grade math was particularly low at 16%, compared with 23% at Atchison, 48% at Doniphan West and 25% at Riverside.

Results have improved from 2022–23 in all three subjects, but not enough to keep pace with state gains: ELA rose 9 points to 33% and math rose 6 points to 23%, while both state gaps widened by about 4 points. Science fell 25 points from its unusually high 44% result in 2024–25 to 18%. SchoolDigger ranked Troy in the 11th percentile statewide in 2025–26, with 1 star and a rank of 303 out of 340; its percentile was 8 the prior year and 48 in 2023–24. One notable group finding: SchoolDigger’s measure of how well the school serves female students fell from the 55th percentile in 2020–21 to the 17th in 2025–26, a 38-point drop. Troy’s student–teacher ratio was 12.5, and its 28% free/reduced-lunch rate was below the nearby-school average of 48%; these are context, not explanations for results. Chronic absenteeism was 24%, above the state and district rates of 18%.
