Doniphan West Schools

Doniphan West Schools has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Doniphan West Elementary School (PK–6, 211 students) and Doniphan West Junior/Senior High School (grades 7–12, 176 students). The clearest difference is between the schools: in 2025–26, the elementary school scored above the state in all three subjects, while the high school scored below it in all three.

Doniphan West Elementary stands out at the top, with 56% proficiency in ELA, 47% in math, and 50% in science—10, 6, and 12 percentage points above state results. Doniphan West Junior/Senior High is below the state by 13 points in ELA, 7 in math, and 14 in science, with results of 33%, 34%, and 24%. The elementary school’s overall strength varies by grade: grade 4 math is 15 points below the state, while grade 6 math is 23 points above. The high school also has a notable exception: 10th-grade math is 11 points above the state. SchoolDigger rates the elementary school at the 61st percentile with 3 stars and the high school at the 49th percentile with 2 stars.

Recent changes are mixed. High-school ELA rose 12 points and math rose 5 from 2024–25 to 2025–26, narrowing their gaps with the state; science fell 6 points, widening its shortfall. Elementary science also fell sharply, by 17 points, but remained 12 points above the state. Other measures provide context: the elementary school’s student–teacher ratio is 11.1, compared with 13.2 at the high school, and its free/reduced-lunch rate is 46%, versus 39% at the high school. The high school’s 100% graduation rate exceeded the statewide rate of 90%, while its chronic absenteeism rate was 24%, compared with 18% statewide.
