About the Kansas State Assessment Common Core: About the ELA Assessment:

Adopted in 2010, the new content standards in English language arts are now called the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. In addition to standards for reading, writing, and literacy across subject areas, the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards include speaking, listening, and language standards. To be prepared for rigorous study in school, and for the working world after formal education is completed, students must be able to use language effectively. Fluency in these standards is vital for students to express themselves and to understand others in oral and written communication, as well as essential to the ability to read critically, to draw conclusions from evidence, and to build knowledge.

About the Math Assessment:

Adopted in 2010, the new content standards in mathematics are now called the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics. Instruction and assessment tied to these content standards should include not only procedures but also conceptual understanding. Students should be fluent in mathematical practices such as being able to represent and solve problems, justifying methods or conclusions, and being able to apply mathematics to real-world situations.

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
