Summary:
Rexford has two schools serving grades 6–12: Golden Plains High (grades 9–12) and Golden Plains Middle (grades 6–8), with 87 students combined. In 2025–26, the schools’ reported all-grades results were below Kansas averages in English language arts (ELA), math, and science. High reported 28% in ELA, 37% in math, and 0% in science, compared with state results of 46%, 41%, and 38%; Middle reported 31%, 28%, and 17%, respectively. Science is the clearest shared concern: both schools’ results were well below the state, by 38 percentage points at High and 22 points at Middle.
Neither school stands out as stronger across every subject, but each has a grade-specific bright spot. High’s grade 10 math result was just above Kansas—36.8% versus 36.6%, a 0.3-point difference—while Middle’s grade 8 ELA result was close to the state: 41.7% versus 42.4%, or 0.8 points lower. In the all-grades figures, Middle had higher ELA and science results, while High had higher math results; these are not like-grade comparisons. SchoolDigger placed both in the lower part of its statewide rankings in 2025–26: High at the 20th percentile and Middle at the 21st. Recent trends differ by school and subject. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, High’s ELA proficiency fell by 11 percentage points, while its math result rose by 6; Middle’s ELA rose by 10 points, but its math fell by 3. SchoolDigger’s rankings also declined over time: High moved from the 49th percentile in 2022–23 to the 20th in 2025–26, while Middle went from the 43rd percentile in 2023–24 to the 21st. High has a lower student–teacher ratio than Middle (6.5 versus 9.5), and their free/reduced-lunch rates are similar at 78% and 75%. Chronic absenteeism was 23% at High and 19% at Middle, compared with 18% statewide.
