Akron Elementary School is a K–5 school serving 354 students in the small northern Indiana town of Akron, part of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. In 2025–2026, Akron Elementary School ranked 724th of 1,015 Indiana elementary schools — the 29th percentile, with 1 star — the lowest ranking in the school's recent history. As recently as 2023–2024, the school was at the 54th percentile with 3 stars, so this is a sharp, recent decline rather than a long-standing pattern.

Academically, Akron's 2025–2026 results were below its district and the state in every reported subject. Fifth grade stood out as the most urgent area, with ELA at 22.81% and math at 24.56%. The strongest relative result was 4th grade math at 43.75%, though it was still below district and state. The most striking comparison is with Mentone Elementary School, which is in the same district and serves students with nearly identical poverty rates (59.38% vs. 57.34%), similar spending, and almost the same class size — yet outperformed Akron by roughly 18–27 percentage points in ELA, math, and science.
