Southport High School is a large public high school in the Perry Township Schools district on the south side of Indianapolis, serving about 2,431 students in grades 9–12. It ranks 291st of 415 Indiana high schools — the 30th percentile — and holds a 2-star rating, placing it in the bottom third of the state. Roughly 70.63% of students come from low-income families (free or reduced-price lunch), and per-student spending is $11,347 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.2. The school's clearest strength is completion: its graduation rate of 94.4% for 2024–2025 is above Indiana's 89.7%.

Chronic absenteeism is the biggest red flag. At 38.5%, it is more than double the state rate (16.7%) and nearly double the district rate (20.4%), and it is higher than every nearby traditional public high school in this comparison. Test results are also low: 30.14% proficiency in Biology, 39.09% in SAT ERW, and 16.23% in SAT Math — all below district and state averages.
