Clifty Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Clifty Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Columbus, Indiana, with 636 students. It is part of the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation district, which is ranked 166 out of 364 districts in Indiana and has a 3-star rating.

Clifty Creek Elementary stands out from nearby schools like Rockcreek Elementary and Southside Elementary in several key ways. It has a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (35.38%) compared to the surrounding schools, which range from 3.68% to 20.63% Hispanic. Clifty Creek also has a very high chronic absenteeism rate of 24.5%, much higher than the 5.8% to 15.5% range of nearby schools. Academically, Clifty Creek's performance on ILEARN tests is significantly lower than the district and state averages across all subjects and grade levels, with only 26.67% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 40.38% for the district and 39.7% for the state.

These factors, combined with Clifty Creek's very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (73.27%), suggest that the school faces significant challenges compared to its peers. While the reasons for these disparities are complex, the data indicates that Clifty Creek has substantial room for improvement in addressing attendance, engaging its diverse student population, and boosting academic achievement. The school and district will need to develop targeted strategies to address these issues and provide a high-quality education for all students.

Open Quote Nothing but drama dealing with this school. Now the principal wants PTO out so he can do what he wants without intervention. Bullying is out of control and nothing is done. My child gets hit on the playground and the teachers say "I did not see anything". If my child comes home hurt again I will be calling a lawyer not the school!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
