Summary:

South Harrison Com Schools serves about 3,123 students across eight schools — four elementary, two middle, and two high — and is rated 4 stars, ranking 96th of 374 Indiana districts at the 74th percentile. One school, South Central Junior & Senior High School, is classified as a high school but serves grades 7–12, so it also contributes middle-grade results.

Elementary math is a clear bright spot. Corydon Elementary School posts all-grade math proficiency of 65.61%, well above the district's 45.05%, despite a 58.54% FRL rate and lower-than-average spending of $10,678 per student. Heth-Washington Elementary School leads in science at 61.90% (district: 46.94%) and fifth-grade social studies at 63.64%, though its third-grade ELA is just 8.70%. Corydon Intermediate School has the district's lowest chronic absenteeism at 11.3%, with fourth-grade ELA at 58.79% and math at 60.61%. Corydon Central Junior High School is the strongest-ranked reported school at 4 stars (100th of 486). Graduation is a district strength: South Central Junior & Senior High School graduates 98.1% and Corydon Central High School 97.6%, versus the state's 89.7%. But absenteeism is high at Corydon Central High School (28.7%) and Corydon Central Junior High School (25.1%).

Math weakens sharply at the secondary level. South Central Junior & Senior High School has the strongest all-grade ELA (60.23%), the lowest FRL rate (37.69%), the highest spending ($17,191), and the lowest student-teacher ratio (13.4), yet the weakest all-grade math (28.41%) and SAT math (21.62%). Corydon Central High School's SAT math (24.71%) is below the state's 25.6%. Science is volatile: Heth-Washington Elementary rose from 40.48% to 61.90%, while New Middletown Elementary fell from 40.74% to 29.63% and shows extreme swings (third-grade math 76.92%, fourth-grade ELA 15.38%), which is common in small schools. Rank trends improved at Heth-Washington and New Middletown (2 to 3 stars) but slipped at South Central Elementary (4 to 3 stars).
