Summary:
ZIP code 62521 has eight schools: seven elementary schools serving different grade spans (K–6, K–8 or PK–8) and one high school, Eisenhower High School. In 2025–2026, the elementary schools’ average All Grades results were 18% in ELA and 11% in math, compared with state rates of 56% and 40%. The most important area-wide finding is that elementary proficiency averages remain well below state levels: 38 percentage points in ELA and 29 points in math.
Montessori Academy for Peace led reported elementary results, with 42% in ELA and 19% in math; its ELA rate was 19 points above the next-highest school, Michael E Baum Elementary, at 23%. At the other end, Hope Academy had the lowest reported ELA rate, 6%, 36 points below Montessori; Hope’s math result was suppressed, so it cannot be ranked in that subject. Among reported math results, Dennis Lab School was lowest at 5%, while Montessori was highest. Montessori also came close to the state rate in eighth-grade science, with 51% versus 52%. At the high school, Eisenhower’s 11th-grade ACT results were below state rates in all three subjects.
Results have improved unevenly: the elementary ELA average rose about 1 point from the prior year, while the state rate increased 3 points; the matched-school math average rose about 2 points, compared with a 1-point state increase. Science offers brighter examples: fifth-grade science at Johns Hill Magnet School rose 12 points, versus a 7-point state increase. School context does not neatly predict results: in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible rates were 53% at Montessori, 87% at Michael E Baum and 94% at Hope, while their outcomes differed considerably. Hope had the lowest elementary student–teacher ratio, 13.9, compared with 14.6 at Montessori; neither measure alone identifies which school will be the best fit.
