J Sterling Morton West High School is a large high school in Berwyn, Illinois, serving grades 9–12 and enrolling 3,374 students; it is part of J S Morton HSD 201. SchoolDigger ranks the district in the 6th percentile statewide, while West ranks in the 21st percentile and has 1 star. The most important finding for families is that West’s proficiency rates are above the district in all nine reported grade-and-subject results, but below Illinois in every one.

West’s results place it in the middle of the nearby group: it ranks third of five schools in each 10th- and 11th-grade subject comparison, and second-lowest among the four schools serving ninth grade. It is ahead of J Sterling Morton East High School and Proviso East High School in most tested comparisons, but trails the much higher-scoring Riverside Brookfield Township High School and Proviso Math and Science Academy. Recent test results show ELA declining by 3 to 6 points across grades 9–11, while math improved by 3 to 8 points; the state gap widened in ELA and narrowed in math. Its student-teacher ratio was 15.4 in 2024–2025, the lowest among the nearby schools, and 78% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year. Graduation improved from 78% in 2022–2023 to 87% in 2025–2026, while chronic absenteeism fell from 40% in 2021–2022 to 30% in 2025–2026, still above the state’s 24%.
