Rockland Elementary School has consistently performed well, ranking in the top 10% of Illinois elementary schools for several years. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school ranked 188 out of 2,056 Illinois elementary schools and received a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's academic performance is particularly strong, with students consistently outperforming the state average in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency across all grade levels. In the 2024-2025 school year, 78.1% of Rockland students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to the state average of 53.1%, and 64% were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to the state average of 38.5%.

While Rockland Elementary School's performance is generally stronger than the nearby Butterfield School and Adler Park School within the Libertyville School District 70, some other nearby schools, such as Rondout Elementary School and Oak Grove Elementary School, have also demonstrated strong academic performance, ranking in the top 10-20% of Illinois elementary schools. The school's higher spending per student and lower student-teacher ratio compared to the state average suggest a focus on providing a well-resourced learning environment for its students, but the school should continue to monitor and address areas of concern, such as chronic absenteeism and the performance of special education and disabled students, to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Open Quote I watched several kids go through this school system and I definitely noticed some kids placed in various math and reading tracks not based on ability and merit but on some other diversity equity and inclusion standard. Just be aware of this. This school also got rid of traditional grades and replaced them with a nebulous grading system where most kids would get either a “meets” grade or a “mastering” on their report card. Every mother I talked to hated this new grading standard because it didn’t give you enough feedback as to where your child could improve. Close Quote
