Quincy School District 172 has eight schools, serving students from early childhood through high school: six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Seven schools report test scores, with results varying across schools and grades. The clearest concerns are at the middle and high schools: Quincy Junior High trails state results by 19 points in ELA and 18 points in math, while Quincy Senior High’s latest ACT scores are also well below state figures.
Lincoln-Douglas Elementary stands out among elementary schools, leading 2025–2026 All Grades results with 64% in ELA and 42% in math; both are above state results of 56% and 40%. At the lower end, Dr. Abby Fox Rooney Elementary has the lowest All Grades ELA result, 43%, and Thomas S Baldwin Elementary has the lowest math result, 30%. Strengths differ by subject and grade: Baldwin leads Grade 5 science at 55%, while Fox is lowest in Grade 5 ELA at 33% and science at 31%. Elementary ELA improved at all five K–5 schools: the unweighted average rose from 44% to 53%, narrowing the gap with the state from 9 points to 3. Math was nearly unchanged at about 36%, while the state rose from 39% to 40%, widening the average gap from 3 points to 4. Grade 5 science improved on average from 35% to 47%, but Fox remained nearly flat, moving from 31% to 31%. Elementary schools have student–teacher ratios from 12.1 to 15.0 and free/reduced lunch eligible shares from 59% to 69% in 2024–2025; these are context, not explanations for results.
