Summary:
The three schools in Cusd 4 serve 672 students from prekindergarten through grade 12: Unity Elementary School serves prekindergarten through grade 4, Unity Middle School serves grades 5–8, and Unity High School serves grades 9–12. The most striking contrast in the latest IAR results is that middle school leads in English language arts (ELA), while elementary leads in mathematics.
Unity Middle School stands out in All Grades ELA, scoring 71% compared with 41% at Unity Elementary School—a 30-point difference. Middle school was 15 points above the state rate, while elementary was 15 points below. In mathematics, elementary scored 57%, 16 points above middle school’s 40%; both were above the state rate. Middle school science was also strong: its grade 5 and grade 8 results were 58% and 77%, respectively, compared with 48% and 52% statewide. At Unity High School, grade 11 ACT ELA and science were above state rates by 7 and 6 points, but ACT math was 6 points below; all six reported grade 9–10 PreACT Secure results were below state rates.
Recent changes are mixed rather than showing one area-wide direction. Elementary ELA fell 12 points from the prior year, while its mathematics result was nearly unchanged. Middle ELA rose 2 points and mathematics slipped 1 point, but science climbed 21 points in grade 5 and 32 points in grade 8. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings were 67th percentile for middle school, 45th for elementary and 37th for high school; the high school rank fell 30 percentile points over three years. Student–teacher ratios were 13.5 at elementary, 12.6 at middle and 10.2 at high school. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligibility was 44%, 53% and 40%, respectively. These figures provide context, but neither ratios nor eligibility line up neatly with results across subjects.
