Summary:

Plainfield School District 202 includes 29 schools: 18 elementary, 7 middle and 4 high schools, serving students from elementary through high school. In 2025–2026, elementary-school averages were above state results in ELA, math and science; middle-school averages were notably higher in ELA and science but close to the state in math. High-school ACT averages were above state results, while PreACT science averages were below. The clearest takeaway is that differences between schools at the same level—especially elementary schools—can be much larger than the area’s average advantage over the state.

Walkers Grove Elementary School leads elementary schools, with 86% proficient in all-grades ELA and 80% in math; those results are about 46 and 55 percentage points above the lowest scores, at Wesmere Elementary School in ELA and Grand Prairie Elementary School in math. At the middle level, Heritage Grove Middle School leads in ELA, while Richard Ira Jones Middle School leads in math; Heritage Grove’s ELA result is 25 points above Aux Sable Middle School, the lowest. Plainfield North High School leads the high schools in all three 11th-grade ACT subjects, ahead of Plainfield South High School by 22 points in ELA, 21 in math and 20 in science.

Recent results show gains in elementary ELA and science, but a small dip in math: school averages changed by about +4, +6 and −1 percentage points, respectively, from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026. Middle-school ELA and math averages each rose about 3 points, while high-school ACT averages fell by about 2 points in ELA, 4 in math and 3 in science. SchoolDigger’s rankings offer another comparison: Walkers Grove was at the 96th percentile in 2025–2026, while Wesmere was at the 19th and Grand Prairie at the 23rd. As context, Walkers Grove had a 22% free/reduced lunch eligible rate, compared with 44% at Wesmere (school year 2024–2025); these figures describe school communities and do not explain score differences.
