Summary:
Mount Olive CUSD 5 has two schools serving pre-K through grade 12: Mt Olive Elementary School serves pre-K–8 and enrolls 328 students, while Mt Olive High School serves grades 9–12 and enrolls 151; together they have 479 students. The results show notable strengths alongside substantial shortfalls, rather than a consistent picture of either school being strong or weak. The most important takeaway is that performance varies sharply by grade and subject, so a grade-specific view is more useful than a single overall label.
The clearest bright spots are grade 8 ELA at the elementary school and grade 10 science at the high school: both were 17 points above the state, at 81% versus 63% and 66% versus 48%, respectively. The elementary school also exceeded the state in grade 6 ELA by 8 points. At the other end, its grade 5 science result was 25%, 23 points below the state; the high school’s grade 9 math was 23%, 19 points below the state, and grade 11 ACT ELA was 36%, 14 points below. The elementary school’s all-grades ELA and math results were also below state levels by 2 and 8 points.
Recent results are mixed, with some especially large grade-level shifts. Elementary grade 5 science fell from 44% to 25% between 2024–25 and 2025–26, while the state rose; its grade 8 science result also fell, from 46% to 42%. At the high school, five of nine grade-and-subject comparisons moved closer to the state and four moved farther away; grade 10 science improved from 54% to 66%, while grade 9 ELA dropped from 78% to 49%. SchoolDigger rankings also declined recently: the elementary school went from the 52nd percentile in 2024–25 to the 37th in 2025–26, and the high school from the 65th to the 48th. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were similar—48% at each school—and student-teacher ratios were 10.8 and 12.0, respectively.
