Litchfield CUSD 12

The four schools in Litchfield CUSD 12 serve 1,179 students from early childhood through grade 12: the Early Childhood Center (K–1), Litchfield Elementary School (grades 2–5), Litchfield Middle School (grades 6–8), and Litchfield Senior High School (grades 9–12). The clearest academic strength is middle-school English language arts (ELA): 78% of students were proficient, 21 percentage points above the state, while middle-school mathematics was 32%, 7 points below the state.

Litchfield Middle School stands out most in ELA, exceeding state results in grades 6, 7 and 8 by 17, 17 and 20 points, respectively. By contrast, its all-grades mathematics result was below the state. At Litchfield Senior High School, grade 11 ACT results were below state levels in all three subjects, with the largest gap in mathematics: 27% proficient versus 40% statewide, 13 points lower. Still, its graduation rate was 96%, 6 points above the state. Litchfield Elementary School had a small bright spot in grade 3 ELA, at 50% compared with 48% statewide. Results across schools are not direct rankings because the schools serve different grades and their scores cover different tests.

Recent results are mixed: middle-school ELA rose 3 points, but its mathematics fell 3 points; elementary all-grades ELA and mathematics fell 4 and 3 points, respectively. High-school grade 11 ACT ELA improved 3 points, while ACT mathematics fell 4 and science fell 7; grade 10 PreACT results improved in all three subjects. SchoolDigger ranks the district 472nd of 738, in the 36th percentile with 2 stars; the middle school’s SchoolDigger rank also declined from the 82nd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 59th in 2025–2026, despite its strong ELA result. As context, in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible students made up 63% at the middle school, 66% at the elementary school and 54% at the senior high; student-teacher ratios were 12.2, 13.6 and 13.4, respectively.
