Summary

Columbia High School is a large comprehensive high school in Nampa, ID, serving 1,165 students in grades 9–12 within the Nampa School District, a district ranked in the bottom fifth of Idaho school districts. Despite that challenging district context, Columbia stands out as a relative bright spot in several important ways. The school's English language arts performance is its clearest academic strength: in 2025–26, 65.1% of students scored proficient on the end-of-course ELA exam, beating the district rate of 57.2% and the state average of 61.3%. This pattern has held for multiple years, with Columbia outpacing nearby Skyview High School (58.4%), Nampa Senior High School (58.2%), and Union High School (42.4%) on the same assessment.

Attendance is another standout area. Columbia's chronic absenteeism rate has dropped dramatically from 29.0% in 2021–22 to just 7.0% in 2025–26, far better than the district average of 17.3% and the state average of 13.8%. That puts Columbia in a tie for the strongest attendance profile among the district's high schools, compared with 40.7% at Union High School and 37.5% at Elevate Academy Nampa. Graduation rates have also been respectable, reaching 87.8% in 2023–24, well above the district's 79.8% and the state's 82.3%. The school achieves these results with a high student–teacher ratio of 23.1 to 1 and per-pupil spending near the lower end among comparable Nampa schools.

The biggest challenges are in math and science. Math proficiency has consistently lagged the state by wide margins—just 21.7% proficient in 2025–26 versus 33.1% statewide—while science scores are mixed but generally below the state average of 41.2%. By comparison, Owyhee High School, about five miles away in a higher-performing district, posted 50.3% math proficiency and 55.8% science proficiency. Columbia's overall ranking of 84th among Idaho high schools understates its real strengths in literacy and engagement, but math, science, and support for historically underserved student groups remain the clearest areas for growth.

The science department at Columbia is wonderful, as are a select few of the other teachers and staff. There is no tradition at this school (it's new, so that is a given).

Columbia has a very poor front office, much of the staff is rude - as are the students.

The school has a full Mac lab and yet they can't afford to give every student a text book in their history classes. The Nampa school district is terrible as it is and Columbia High School is a perfect example of the ineptitude of the school system and budget in Idaho. Please, if you can, send your kids to Renaissance High School, IDVA or home school them. Close Quote

When I had personal issue I had to move in with a family member whom was in the Columbia high school boundaries. When I was tryin to transfer my daughter the gal whom was in charge of all that treated us horribly. She was pretty much acussing me of just wanting to put her in the school, when I really needed to. If I didn't I wouldn't have. I really disliked how I was treated and have told everyone I knew about that gal whom was very rude and careless. Since I only really talked to about 2-3 people they were all pretty careless not good for a first impression.
Also when something happens to your child or involved in an accendient the school doesn't even notify you when they should let you know that's why you fill out all that paper work.
Everyone that's in the office should try alittle bit more in doing there job in a friendly manner and notify parents if anything happens to there child. Especally when it happens on your time. Close Quote

Columbia High School is one of the few schools in Idaho that is blessed with art, theater, broadcasting and choir teachers that are passionate about their work. They encourage the students to be creative instead of squandering their talents like so many other schools do. Close Quote
