Marsing Middle School

Marsing Middle School is a small rural middle school in Marsing, Idaho, serving 200 students in grades 6–8 as part of the Marsing Joint District. What makes this school stand out is its remarkable turnaround: as recently as 2015–2016, it ranked in the 5th percentile among Idaho middle schools, but by 2025–2026 it had climbed to the 54th percentile, earning a 3-star rating. Looking deeper at grade-level results, Marsing's 6th graders shine, with 55.9% proficient in math and 61.0% in ELA, well above state averages. Eighth-grade ELA is also strong at 63.6% proficient. However, 7th grade shows a dip in both subjects, and 8th grade science (39.4% proficient) trails the state average. Overall, Marsing Middle School is a clear success story — a high-poverty rural school matching or beating wealthier neighbors, with strong attendance, small class sizes, and a decade-long improvement trajectory that appears genuine and sustained.
