I had such high hopes for this school as a parent of a gifted Kindergartener. I withdrew my child after 1st semester due to lack of structure, stability & communication. My child was placed in the inclusion class that had several behavioral issues, and two lead teachers quit within the 1st four months. It started with 26 student, and had 23 half way thru the year. 23 students is a lot when several have behavioral concerns. Within the first couple of weeks of school, I received a call saying my child had been hurt, after a student angrily pushed the table over, and injured other students. Thankfully, they were mistaken and my child was not injured, but my heart hurt for those who were. Not the call you want to receive! The behavioral issues continued. My child would tell me daily who got in trouble and how upset it would make him feel because they couldn’t learn. I can honestly say, my child did not learn much that he did not know before beginning at this school.

After several meetings with the admin, I requested my child be moved. First Kolt Bloxson, the founder, told me it shouldn’t be an issue and we had an in-depth convo about the other teacher SHE recommended would be a better fit for my child, 2 weeks later— she changed her mind. Honestly, we wasted half of a school year hoping things would drastically improve, and they did not. They admitted that the class was at a “slower pace” due to the instability with staff, and that felt extremely frustrating as a parent of a Kindergartner who is well advanced. Even at their Curriculum night, Kolt stated, they are still figuring things out. While I understand “winging” it may work for some, it does not work for me. I’m not okay with my child being a guinea pig for a school that has only been established for approximately 16 months. I have so much love and respect for Wilkerson, who was my child’s teacher, but I believe she can only do so much. Beyond disappointed with the founder, Kolt Bloxson and her unwillingness to acknowledge the incompetence within the inclusion class. Several of the parents plan to withdraw after the school year is complete. Due to this experience, I will likely never opt for a charter school again. Please beware. If you need structure and stability— this is not it! I am so grateful to be in a new school with only 15 students, two teachers with 50 years of combined experience and my child comes home daily telling me what he learned without disruptions and students getting in trouble constantly!
