Summary

Hiram Elementary School in Hiram, GA, serves approximately 797 students in grades PK through 5 within the Paulding County School District. The school has seen a steady decline in its statewide ranking over the past decade, moving from the middle of the pack (53rd percentile in 2016-2017) to the bottom quarter (23rd percentile in 2025-2026), and now holds a 1-star rating.

Academically, Hiram Elementary trails both district and state averages by significant margins, particularly in math and science. For example, 3rd grade math proficiency stands at 30.7%, compared to 50.3% for the district and 48.3% for the state. The gap is even more striking when compared to nearby schools. McGarity Elementary, just 1.9 miles away, posts a 60.9% proficiency rate in 3rd grade math—roughly double Hiram's rate. Even Bessie L. Baggett Elementary, which serves a similar percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, outperforms Hiram in this subject. Science proficiency has remained stagnant at around 24% for four years, and the gap with the state average has widened. Subgroup data shows particular challenges for male students (bottom fifth statewide) and special education students (bottom 13% statewide).

There are some positive developments. Chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 23.5% to 13.3% over three years, now better than both district and state averages. Math scores also showed improvement in the most recent testing cycle, with 5th grade math rising 6.5 points. The school spends $15,256 per student, comparable to higher-performing neighbors like Sam D. Panter Elementary, which serves a nearly identical student population yet achieves significantly better results. This suggests that resources are available, and the school's improved attendance provides a foundation for future instructional interventions to build upon.

Open Quote My son attended Hiram Elem from kinder thru 3rd grade. We had a great experience every year with great teachers who truly care about the students. The Principal Mr.Wilder is a great leader in the school and the counselor Mrs.Ford is also great! I could NEVER say anything negative about this school. They welcome everyone as part of the Hiram Family and their PTA is very dedicated. I could honestly say, this is the best Elementary school in Paulding County. A word of advice show your support to the school, students and the teachers by joining and volunteering with their PTA. It helps to make a big difference in the lives of our children and their education. We will miss you Hiram Elementary. Close Quote
