Summary

Social Circle Elementary School serves 436 students in grades 3-5 within the Social Circle City district, a small-town school that has earned a solid mid-tier 3-star rating (54th percentile) among Georgia elementary schools.

One of the school's clearest strengths is attendance. Chronic absenteeism has dropped steadily from 20.9% in 2021-2022 to 15.7% today—about 2 points better than the state average and dramatically better than nearby Middle Ridge Elementary School (30.0%) and Flint Hill Elementary (30.1%). The school also spends efficiently at $13,706 per student, achieving better results than higher-spending neighbors like Porterdale Elementary School ($17,800) and Mansfield Elementary School ($18,933).

Math performance tells a fascinating story. Current 4th graders hit 62.4% proficiency—12 points above the state—a remarkable 24-point jump from last year's 4th grade cohort. However, 5th graders are struggling at 39% proficiency, 5 points below state average. This 23-point gap between consecutive grades is the largest among comparable area schools. Historically, 5th grade has been this school's strongest cohort (posting 68.7% ELA proficiency in 2023-2024), suggesting the current dip may be specific to this group of students rather than a systemic issue. Science scores have also declined from a strong 60.3% to 35.5% over three years. The school faces a significant challenge: economic disadvantage has jumped from 45% to 77% of students in just two years, yet the school has maintained its overall rating. While Atha Road Elementary School and Walnut Grove Elementary School in Walton County rank slightly higher, Social Circle outperforms most Newton County schools in its vicinity. Special education students perform at the school's overall level—a positive sign of equitable support.
