Summary

Roland W. Russom Elementary in Dallas, GA, is a PK-5 school serving 982 students in the Paulding County School District, where it has earned a solid reputation as a strong, mid-to-upper tier performer among Georgia elementary schools.

Russom’s biggest standout is mathematics. In the most recent testing year, 3rd grade math proficiency hit 65.8%—a full 15.5 points above the district average—and 4th grade math reached 63.6%, outpacing the district by 14 points. Even 5th grade math, the school’s relative weak spot, still beat the district by 10 points. The school also excels at keeping kids in class: only 11.4% of students are chronically absent, compared to 16.8% for the district and 17.7% statewide. That consistent attendance advantage is a strong signal of a welcoming, engaging school environment. Russom is also notably effective with Hispanic and African American students, ranking in the 86th and 83rd percentiles statewide for those groups respectively—a strength that sets it apart from many peers.

Compared to nearby schools, Russom holds its own despite fewer resources. Its closest neighbor, Pickett's Mill Elementary in Cobb County, ranks slightly higher (193rd vs. Russom’s 277th), but Cobb schools like Pickett’s Mill, Vaughan Elementary, and Frey Elementary spend $2,000–$4,000 more per student. Within Paulding, Russom sits between Burnt Hickory Elementary (178th) and Floyd L. Shelton Elementary (293rd), while WC Abney Elementary trails at 468th. After a dip last year, Russom jumped 92 spots in the statewide rankings—a sign of positive momentum. Science scores are also climbing, and the school’s efficient spending ($14,221 per student) delivers strong results for a middle-income student body.

Open Quote This is the best school for any child! The teachers are amazing humans that care immensely about their students! They are great teachers and very caring. The principal also is just a wonderful human being and so is her whole staff. There's not another School in Georgia I would rather my children go to. I've had children there for 5 years now and they never disappoint. Close Quote
