Summary

Frey Elementary School in Acworth, GA, serves 691 students in Pre-K through 5th grade and is part of the Cobb County School District, which ranks in the top third of Georgia districts.

Frey is a consistently strong performer, maintaining a 4-star rating for a decade and ranking in the 81st percentile statewide this year. Its standout strength is mathematics—5th grade math proficiency hit 68.9%, far outpacing the district (52.8%) and state (44.1%) averages, and showing a three-year improvement trend. The school also excels at keeping kids in class: chronic absenteeism is just 5.9%, less than half the district rate and a dramatic drop from 15.3% four years ago. This is among the best attendance records in the area, comparable to Ford Elementary (4.5%) and Due West Elementary (5.2%), while several nearby schools struggle with rates above 15%. Frey also posts strong results for its African American students, ranking in the top 7% of Georgia schools for that group. While current-year ELA scores aren't available yet, last year's data showed Frey well above state averages in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade reading.

Frey sits in an interesting middle position among peers—it outperforms Acworth Elementary, Lewis Elementary, and Bullard Elementary, while trailing elite performers like Due West and Ford. However, Frey's trajectory is notable: while some top peers have slipped slightly, Frey's ranking has held steady and its math scores keep climbing. The school also achieves these results efficiently, spending about $18,495 per student—less than several schools it outperforms. With a favorable 11.9:1 student-teacher ratio and a moderate poverty rate (about 30% free/reduced lunch), Frey delivers results comparable to schools with far lower poverty levels, suggesting strong instructional effectiveness. One area to watch: 5th grade science scores dipped from 65.3% to 52.9% year-over-year, though still above district and state averages.

Open Quote We moved here from Massachusetts in 2012. My daughter has attended Frey since 1st grade and this is her final year (I can't believe she's a 5th grader!). We've had an amazing experience here. She's had AMAZING teachers every year. We have discussed moving, but refuse to do so until she's done with elementary school because we've loved Frey so much. Flames of Frey, Aim High! Close Quote
