Summary

Lockheed Elementary School in Marietta, GA, serves approximately 734 students in grades PK-5 within the Marietta City district. The school has a 1-star rating and ranks in the 21st percentile statewide, though this marks a modest improvement from the 15th percentile just a few years ago.

Lockheed faces significant academic challenges, particularly in math and science. In the most recent math assessments, proficiency rates ranged from 22.5% in 5th grade to 36.2% in 4th grade, compared to district averages of 56-60%. Science proficiency in 5th grade sits at just 18%, the lowest among nearby schools. The gap is stark when compared to West Side Elementary, just 2.77 miles away, which posted math proficiency rates of 86-94% and science proficiency of 81.3%. Even Park Street Elementary, which serves a similarly high-poverty population (92% free/reduced lunch), outperforms Lockheed in both 4th and 5th grade math. However, there are bright spots: 3rd grade math proficiency has more than doubled from 16.2% to 35.2% over three years, and chronic absenteeism has dropped from 27.4% to 16.8%—now below the district average.

One of Lockheed's most notable strengths is its work with English Language Learner (ELL) students. The school ranks in the 63rd percentile statewide for ELL outcomes, earning a 3-star rating in this area—a remarkable achievement given the school's overall 1-star rating. The school also invests heavily in its students, spending $20,920 per pupil with a favorable 9.4:1 student-teacher ratio, higher than many better-performing nearby schools like Eastvalley Elementary ($17,981) and Kincaid Elementary ($17,494). While the school's trajectory is positive, the data suggests that additional resources alone haven't yet closed the achievement gap, particularly in 5th grade math and science, where proficiency remains alarmingly low.

Open Quote I have been a teacher for over 20 years and all I can say is, this is not a place to send your child. Marietta city schools are corrupt and everyone will protect one another to ensure their positions. They do not have the best interest of the youth at heart. I would choose my location of residency very wisely! Close Quote

Open Quote My son has attended Lockheed for two years and has been fortunate enough to have the same teacher for both kindergarten and first grade. His teacher has been nothing short of amazing. She is so patient and understanding with him. He is a very smart child, but gets bored and loses focus when he is not challenged. She understands this about him and finds different ways to challenge him everyday. Because of this, he is now doing 2nd and 3rd grade work! He also attends speech therapy in the school. His therapist has helped to improve his speech a hundred times better than what it was prior. The principal and staff are great people and really seem to have the children's best interest at heart.
