Summary

Moreland Elementary School in Moreland, GA, serves approximately 547 students in grades PK-5 within the Coweta County School District, and it currently holds a 4-star rating, ranking 297th out of 1,219 Georgia elementary schools (76th percentile).

This school has shown impressive consistency and growth over the past decade, climbing from a 3-star rating and 455th place in 2015-2016 to its current strong position. The most notable academic strength is in mathematics, particularly in 3rd and 4th grades, where proficiency rates (64.1% and 66% respectively) significantly exceed state averages by about 16 points. However, 5th grade math presents a persistent challenge, with proficiency dropping to 44%—a 22-point decline from 4th grade that has appeared consistently over multiple years. Science performance has been a bright spot, surging from 36.9% proficiency in 2022-2023 to 60.8% in 2024-2025, and while it pulled back to 49.4% this year, it still exceeds the state average. The school also excels at keeping students in class, with a chronic absenteeism rate of just 12.7%—well below the district (19.2%) and state (17.7%) averages, and a significant improvement from 19.4% just two years ago.

Compared to nearby schools, Moreland ranks second only to Elm Street Elementary School (167th) among seven local Coweta elementary schools, outperforming Ruth Hill Elementary School (473rd), Atkinson Elementary School, and Jefferson Parkway Elementary School (984th). What makes this achievement notable is the school's efficiency—it spends $15,672 per student, less than several lower-performing peers, and maintains a student-teacher ratio of 13.3:1. The school also shows a gender gap in performance, with female students ranking in the 79th percentile compared to 70th for males. While current English Language Arts scores won't be available until December, historical data shows strong 4th and 5th grade performance. Overall, Moreland Elementary presents as a solid, improving school with strong attendance, efficient resource use, and clear areas for targeted growth in 5th grade math.

Open Quote We moved here this year for the 2011-2012 school year from Charlotte, NC. I have been very impressed by the school, staff and principal. My son has been struggling and they are more than willing to help. The principal is very active and involved with the students. The only complaint that I have, not related to the school but to the area that it is in, is that Internet is not readily available. We have to use a hot spot and most of the houses we looked at in the area have this problem. We will probably have to move out of the area but we are really torn because this school has been so excellent for our children. Close Quote
