Open Quote My child has attended Teasley since Kindergarten. This used to be a wonderful school but has fallen off completely. The teachers seem extremely unhappy with their jobs, they put forth very little effort into academics. They seem to cater to students that are average leaving the exceptional students to feel neglected and bored. When these children voice their concerns about the need to be challenged they are made to feel as if they are not that smart and that they are too cocky. Bullying has become a big problem at this school, there have been more physical fights since the start of the school year than my entire high school career. This school does not foster a love for learning. My child has a very large group of friends at this school and when I talk to them, all of the children say that they hate it and are unhappy and most of the parents feel the same. It's a shame because this area of Smyrna is up and coming and a lot of young families are moving in. It's a shame that their children will not be given a quality education. Close Quote

Open Quote I really struggled with how to rank Teasley. I feel like my opinion is based on my experience with my child's teacher, counselor and principal. Yet it was a bad enough experience that I would never let my child continue here nor would I let my other children go to this school. In my child's first year they were made to feel as if they were not as smart as the other kids. Their teacher maintained negative body language towards my child - and I don't know what they did in ASP but on multiple occasions my child came home so distraught that I pulled them immediately from the program. $7 a day for childcare isn't worth having an upset child.

What really nailed it for me was being bullied into believing that our child had severe learning disabilities. Fortunately by doing our due diligence we realized that our child was simply stressed by their environment. Maybe it's the 20 minutes of free play during the day, or the robotic feel, or the obsession over reading, writing and math. Perhaps it was the inability to to create a safe-feeling space for my child. Maybe it was the inconsistent feedback from the teacher or hearing different feedback from conversations and meetings. Maybe it was the condescending attitude of the principal who was very dismissive of my child and their prospects for their academic future.

Either way - I ended up in a situation where I was told my child simply wasn't coping with grade level and wouldn't thrive at the next. Fortunately I looked at a lot of private schools and my child placed in the next grade level despite what the Teasley administration and teacher had to say. Funny enough now my child loves school and is performing very well with no stress.

Now I say this not to blast Teasley and say it's a horrible school. I have many friends who go there and are happy with their experience. I also know many people who have left Teasley because it didn't live up to the hype. My advice for all parents is just to try and do your due diligence. Meet the principal and potential teachers and decide for yourself. As far as schools go - it's well funded and has a very strong PTA. I was actually a bit heartbroken because I really wanted my kid to go there. Close Quote

Open Quote The principal and administration are incredibly rude. It feels as though none of the staff even want to be there! The communication between the parents and the teachers is incredibly below average. This is my child's 4th year at Teasley and things have not improved. Each year I hope for a change. I have encountered teachers that are unreasonable and on some occasions very inexperienced. This school had such a great reputation and I was excited to send my child. At this point I am eagerly awaiting the end of this school year so that we can get out! It starts at the top. A passive aggressive principal does not make for a good leader. Close Quote

Open Quote Have my oldest and Teasley now, and my younger one starting this fall! Have been very happy with it from beginning to end! Teachers have been fantastic - and are overwhelmed at their commitment to the kids and to the families! Our daughter is in the Target class and am impressed with what they're doing there too! Great to have such a successful local school Close Quote

Open Quote My husband and I couldn't be happier with the progress our children have made at Teasley. Both of our children learn differently and respond to different methods of teaching. Each of our children are so confident in all they've accomplished, which speaks volumes to the way Teasley teachers care and take time to work with each child in a way that speaks to them.

Through leadership from Ms. Mansfield, our principal, and the community she's created with all of the parents and staff, we couldn't be happier with all we've experienced throughout the 3 years our children have attended. The best decision we made for our children was moving to the Teasley school district. Close Quote

Open Quote This is our fifth year with children at Teasley and we are extremely happy. It is a warm environment with lots of caring teachers, administrators and parents. The administration is welcoming of parent involvement and the teachers are very good. The school offers a lot of great extracurricular activities and my children have gained a tremendous amount of confidence while learning. Close Quote

Open Quote Teasley has been a great place for my child. He loves going to school and has really grown academically while there. He became very interested on a certain topic within history and his teacher took the time to find supplemental information to give him and support this interest. I work full-time and am only able to volunteer at the school every once in awhile but the principal knows my name, goes out of her way to say something positive about my child, and give me a hug. The school community is friendly, diverse, and strong. Close Quote

Open Quote A Neighborhood School With Rigor
I have been thoroughly impressed with Teasley. My son has had world class teachers and loves going to school with all his neighborhood buddies. I was convinced we had made the right choice (not going to private yet) when he came home last week doing algebra! He's only in 1st grade. Top it all off with warm, caring staff and a principal who greets students by name as they enter each morning and you've got a rare find in a challenging Atlanta education market. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughters enjoy Teasley and I haven't had any problems as a parent. I recommend Teasley because my daughters are happy and the teachers e-mail or send a note when there is a problem. I enjoy the parent/teacher relationship and that my daughters are learning and always talking about what they learned during the day. I appreciate the close attention that Teasley gives my children. I wouldn't change it for anything. Thank you Teasley Close Quote

Open Quote The principal allows teacher to yell and abuse children. Do not ask for your child to be moved to another teacher b/c it won’t happen. The communication between teachers and parents is awful. They are not prepared for diverse students, they want children to be robots. GET OUT OF THERE WHILE YOU CAN! Close Quote

Open Quote Teasley Elementary has great principal and teachers. We are closely involved with the school activities and found out that if you have the drive then you can achieve great results for your kids. This year Teasley Is Recognized For Its Excellence! They have also won the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl in Cobb County competing against 17 other Elementary schools. For me this is a 5 star school. Close Quote

Open Quote Teasley was just named a Georgia School of Excellence. Having seen how hard the parents, staff, and administration work to provide the students with the best education, they deserve this honor. Close Quote

Open Quote I am disappointed with it and my child is only Kindergarten. I rated one star b/c it starts from the top. That principal tries to treat parents as if they are here students. I will not stand for it. Most of the teachers have great attitudes but some of them don't even smile. First year families should be welcomed and we were not. That is unacceptable. Also, the Teasley Pride Program needs to be scrapped. You basically get a note EACH day about how bad your kid is. Like your child touched the artwork on the wall today....silly things like that. I hate it and I would be surprised if we are there next year! Close Quote
