Summary

Bolton Academy Elementary in Atlanta, GA, serves approximately 590 students from Pre-K through 5th grade as part of Atlanta Public Schools. This school has become one of the district's most notable success stories, climbing from the 41st percentile statewide in 2015-2016 to the 82nd percentile today—a 4-star rating it has earned for four consecutive years.

What makes Bolton Academy stand out is its consistent excellence across every student group. The school earns 5-star ratings for both African American and White students, with male students ranking in the 83rd percentile and female students in the 78th percentile statewide. Its chronic absenteeism rate of 10.9% is dramatically lower than the district's 27.6% and the state's 17.7%—a gap that has persisted even during challenging pandemic years. In math, 3rd grade proficiency jumped from 36.8% to 68.1% over three years, and 5th grade science proficiency (63.4%) beats the state average by 19 points. While this year's English Language Arts scores aren't available yet, last year's 4th and 5th grade ELA rates exceeded state averages by more than 23 points.

The contrast with nearby schools is striking. Within a few miles, William M.Boyd Elementary ranks in the 16th percentile with 40.4% chronic absenteeism, and KIPP Soul Primary sits in the 18th percentile. Even Morris Brandon Elementary, which ranks higher overall, serves a much less economically diverse population (19% vs. Bolton's 47% free/reduced lunch). Bolton Academy achieves its results while spending less per student ($25,454) than several lower-performing neighbors. For parents seeking a school where strong academics and diversity go hand in hand, Bolton Academy is a compelling choice.

Open Quote Nice school, could be a nicer school. Principal is a HOT unexperienced, unprofessional, unorganized mess. Please don't be fooled. She only cares about a certain race and if your child or children isn't the race she favors over other races, well I can tell you from experience what will happen. Your emails will go unanswered, no acknowledgment what so ever, and whatever concerns you have for your child or children will get pushed under a rug. A new experienced and fair principal will do this school justice. BEWARE! Close Quote
