Summary

Mundy's Mill High School is a large public high school in Jonesboro, GA, serving 1,665 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Clayton County School District, where nearly all students (99.4%) qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The most striking thing about Mundy's Mill is the gap between its test scores and its graduation rate. While the school's state ranking has slipped to the bottom fifth of Georgia high schools, its graduation rate is a genuine bright spot. In 2024-2025, 92.5% of seniors graduated—a rate that beats the district (86.3%), the state (87.2%), and several nearby schools like Charles R. Drew High School (85.0%), Riverdale High School (89.1%), and Jonesboro High School (88.2%). This suggests the school is effective at keeping students on track to earn a diploma, even if standardized test proficiency is low. In fact, graduation rates have climbed steadily from 85.9% five years ago.

Academically, there's a clear split by subject. U.S. History is a standout strength—in 2023-2024, 45.6% of students were proficient, nearly double the district average and above the state average. However, proficiency in Algebra I (14.1%) and Biology (18.9%) is critically low, with fewer than one in five students mastering those subjects. Chronic absenteeism (34.1%) is nearly double the state average, though it's better than several neighboring schools like Lovejoy High School (42.5%) and Mount Zion High School. For context, Fayette County High School, just 5 miles away, serves a wealthier student body and posts Algebra I proficiency rates more than triple Mundy's Mill's—a reminder of the challenges that come with high poverty. Overall, Mundy's Mill is a school that excels at graduating students but struggles to move the needle on state assessments.
