Summary

Franklin Forest Elementary in Lagrange, GA, is a PK–5 school serving 690 students in the Troup County School District, where nearly all students (96.2%) come from families with high economic need.

Franklin Forest’s biggest challenge is chronic absenteeism. At 21.7%, the rate is well above the district average of 15.0% and the state average of 17.7%. Nearby schools like West Point Elementary School (10.9%) and Hogansville Elementary School (8.2%) have rates less than half of Franklin Forest’s. Attendance is a concrete area where improvement could make a real difference. Academically, the school shows a sharp drop in math proficiency between 4th and 5th grade—from 39.8% to 22.7%—the largest decline among all Troup County elementary schools. By contrast, Long Cane Elementary School actually improves between those grades. There is also a notable gender gap: female students rank in the 31st percentile statewide, while male students rank in the 21st percentile.

There are some bright spots. African American students at Franklin Forest rank in the 43rd percentile statewide, which is stronger than the school’s overall 26th percentile ranking. Fifth-grade science proficiency (33.6%) also outpaces the school’s math performance. However, the school’s overall state ranking has slipped from the 44th percentile in 2021-2022 to the 26th percentile in 2025-2026. Per-pupil spending ($13,697) is competitive with higher-performing peers like Hillcrest Elementary School and Hollis Hand Elementary School, suggesting that resources alone aren’t the issue. For parents, the most actionable takeaway is the importance of regular attendance and supporting math skills as students move into 5th grade.

Open Quote Send your child to this school if you would like them to be terrorized and bullied by the students and teachers. Since the entirety of my oldest son attendance here he has been bullied and the teachers ignore. It has gotten so bad that I have to started teaching him self defense. The problem with that is my son has a kind soul and will not hit anyone even if they hit him. Just to name 2 incidents a student hit my son in the face because he wanted to break in line another incident occurred in his homeroom where the same student stabbed him in the hand with a pencil. The teacher didn't even notify me, I had to hear this from my son. When I asked the teacher why the lack of communication involving bullying and my son getting injured she said it slipped her mind. WOW! So send my son home with a hole in his hand. I can count on 1 hand how many teachers are actually great. I can name them too. I am so exciting the school year is over because my children will not be returning to this school. My children and my experience at this school has highly made me consider home schooling. By far the worst school in Troup County. Close Quote
