Open Quote School and staff are great. What is being taught is not so good. Moving from one school system from another state to FL back to VA, I could not believe how far behind our child got in one year. Our son has been a honor roll student since he started school and never fails to bring home great work and even better grades. Now since moving back to VA after one year he is so far behind it is just amazing. His grades are suffering because he is playing catch up. During his 4th grade year I never thought his teacher was pushing him enough so we would always go an extra step at home. But even starting in his 5th grade there, after one month (because we moved) they were still not "doing" anything. The schools here were only in for two weeks when we got here and they were already being pushed to their grade levels and beyond. My complaint is not with the Principal and the office staff, it is with the lack of education in a hall full of nothing but. We always did find it kind of odd that out of 22 students 18 would be honor roll. In any other school, the average of honor roll to not honor roll did not exceed half of a class! I wish education was just as important as making kids feel good about themselves and not about the "honor roll student" stickers on the back of cars. Unfortunately, its all about the $ that the students can bring in with good grades "Look our students are smart!" when actually comparably speaking they are falling behind. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
