Summary

Lula J. Edge Elementary School in Niceville, FL, is a mid-sized school serving 501 students in grades PK through 5, and is part of the Okaloosa School District, which ranks in the top 18% of districts statewide.

Lula J. Edge is a solid, above-average school that consistently outperforms both district and state averages in all subjects, with math being a clear strength—recent proficiency scores ranged from 78% to 83%, well above the district's 67-72%. However, it has seen a notable decline from its peak in the mid-to-late 2010s, when it was a 5-star school in the top 10% of the state; it now holds a 4-star rating and sits in the 80th percentile. This places it as a strong "middle option" in a competitive area, outperforming nearby schools like Elliott Point Elementary School, Kenwood Elementary School, Longwood Elementary School, and Shalimar Elementary School, but not matching the elite status of its immediate neighbors, Bluewater Elementary School and James E Plew Elementary School, both 5-star schools in the top 10% of the state.

With 46.5% of students eligible for free/reduced lunch, the school serves a moderately diverse socioeconomic population, which is a key differentiator from both higher- and lower-income nearby schools. Chronic absenteeism, while better than district and state averages, has risen to 14.2% and is higher than at Bluewater (8.6%) and Plew (12.1%), suggesting a growing area of concern. Per-student spending ($11,090) is balanced—higher than top-performing schools but lower than those with greater needs—indicating efficient resource allocation. Overall, Lula J. Edge offers a reliable, above-average education with strong math performance, making it a compelling choice for families seeking a well-rounded school in a high-achieving district.

Open Quote I love this school for my children. It is fantastic. There is an overall feeling of community from the front office to the teachers, parents, administration and students. The curriculum is wonderful. The children have pe and recess, which was important to us since many of the schools in the area no longer have both. My children have excelled at this school. We are very pleased with everything. We are proud to say that our third will attend Edge next year. Close Quote

Open Quote I have three children, two which currently attend Edge and my oldest attended Edge for the past 6 years. The oldest is about to enter middle school and I believe she is extremely prepared for the changes and challenges she is about to encounter, thanks to how she has been taught and to what she has been taught.

The school structure and academic plan has been phenomenal and my girls are on a positive educational road; from general education to computers to the arts, my girls have been involved in every aspect of learning the school has offered. Of course one is better at music then the other, and one is better at math than the other, and on it goes, but the point is, I feel my girls will be prepared to face the middle school challenges when the time comes.

On a daily basis, the entire staff at Edge Elementary play a vital role in my girls preparedness; all the teachers & administrative staff know my girls and always make themselves available to provide an A+ education and to assist them as needed, the food service providers teach my children manners and courtesies, the PE coaches teach them perserverance and present a "can do attitude", the janitorial service providers teach my girls the respect of cleaning up after themselves, and the before/after-care providers reinforce all these activities learned in the day. Each person at Edge brings a critical piece of life-learning to the table and my girls gladly feed their thirsty little minds.

My girls are well cared for, well educated and I can't say anything more than this... Given a choice, my girls wake up ready to go to school versus staying home and doing nothing! Close Quote
