Summary

Davenport School Of The Arts in Davenport, FL, is a public magnet school serving 1,440 students from Pre-K through 8th grade, and it stands out as a high-performing beacon within the Polk district, which ranks in the bottom 20% of Florida.

This school consistently exceeds state averages in nearly every subject and grade level, making it an academic outlier compared to nearby schools. For example, its 5th-grade ELA proficiency (69%) is nearly double that of Loughman Oaks Elementary School (48%) and Horizons Elementary School (42%), while its 3rd-grade math proficiency (68%) outperforms Davenport Elementary (38%) by 30 percentage points. Even when compared to schools in the neighboring Osceola district, DSA excels, with 5th-grade science proficiency (67%) significantly higher than Poinciana Academy Of Fine Arts (49%) and Island Village Elementary School (46%). The school has earned a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past decade, a stark contrast to nearby schools that often fluctuate between 0 and 3 stars.

A key driver of DSA's success appears to be its specialized arts curriculum, which creates a highly engaging environment. This is reflected in a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 16.6%, far below the district average of 39.1% and the state average of 31.4%. The school also avoids the typical "middle school dip" in test scores, with 6th-grade ELA proficiency (81%) actually higher than 3rd-grade (68%). Notably, DSA's success is not simply a result of higher spending; its per-student spending ($10,387) is moderate compared to some lower-performing schools like Navigator Academy Of Leadership Davenport ($7,909) and higher-spending schools like Reedy Creek Elementary School ($15,999). This shows that effective resource allocation and a strong educational program, rather than just funding, are what make DSA a proven, high-quality option for families.

Open Quote Exceptional school. Top notch academics, absolutely outstanding arts programs, wonderful staff, and a culture and philosophy that shapes kids into confident leaders through positive reinforcement and the rewarding of hard work and good behavior. I’m shocked that this school isn’t ranked more highly than it is on these platforms. It’s a tremendous place. Close Quote

Open Quote Don't be fooled by "A" school. They made my life a living nightmare. My child self esteem was destroyed before I left that school. I had integrity and character concerns with people in the office primarily one of the adminstrators. I would not consider DSA a nuturing environment from my prespective. My child and I was harrased and threatened and ultimately I could not take it anymore nor would I allow him to edure it any longer. I had to take him out of there. Be careful & look out for your children. It is our job to protect them. Close Quote
