Summary

Bellalago Charter Academy in Kissimmee, FL, is a public charter school serving 1,108 students from Pre-K through 8th grade within the Osceola school district, a district ranked in the bottom 20% of Florida.

Bellalago stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced high school-level coursework taken by middle school students. In Geometry, the school achieved a remarkable 96% proficiency rate, nearly double the district average of 49%, and in Biology 1, it posted 93% proficiency, far exceeding the state average of 74%. This balanced excellence in advanced subjects sets it apart from nearby schools like Mater Brighton Lakes, which scored 100% in Geometry but only 69% in Biology. Another key differentiator is Bellalago’s significantly lower chronic absenteeism rate of 23.7%, which is roughly half that of nearby schools such as Renaissance Charter School At Poinciana (47.7%) and Deerwood Elementary School (41.6%), suggesting a stronger culture of attendance and family engagement.

Despite these strengths, the school faces a notable challenge with a "middle school math slump." While top students excel in advanced math, 7th-grade math proficiency dropped to 36% in the 2025-2026 school year, below the state average of 53%. Similarly, 5th-grade science performance lags at 43% compared to the state average of 60%, indicating that foundational science education in elementary grades needs improvement. Overall, Bellalago is a stable, moderately performing school that provides a better educational environment than many traditional public schools in the area, with higher state rankings and lower chronic absenteeism than peers like Sunrise Elementary School and Koa Elementary School.

Open Quote Totally mismanaged. Poor to no communication, and not just between the school and parents, but among staff as well. And this continues to degrade as time passes. They want students to have absences approved, but never respond to requests for planned absence. What little communication is left has been moved to a website so poorly coded and laid out that when you try to navigate it you feel like a toddler trying to make sense of ASM (programming language).

There's no focus. What few goals are set are as inconsistent as the curriculum, not just between grades, or even between teachers, but between semesters. It's as if the year end goals for the students keep changing every week. Currently the primary focus is preparing students to pass Florida's version of the CAT test. That in itself is alright, but there seems to be more of a focus on getting students to pass the test rather than preparing them for the next grade. Close Quote
