Summary

Water Spring Middle School in Winter Garden, FL, is a high-performing school serving 1,064 students in grades 6-8 within the Orange district, consistently earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the 74th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year.

Water Spring stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math, with 100% of Geometry students and 90% of Algebra 1 students achieving proficiency—far exceeding district averages by 31 and 27 points, respectively. This places it among top local schools like Bridgewater Middle (99% Algebra 1) and Horizon West Middle (96% Algebra 1), though Water Spring’s perfect Geometry score is a rare achievement. The school also boasts a very low free/reduced lunch rate of 8.83%, the lowest among nearby peers, which correlates with strong academic outcomes. Despite spending just $8,494 per student—the lowest in the area—Water Spring achieves high results, suggesting efficiency driven by a well-resourced student body and effective instruction. Chronic absenteeism at 24.9% is notably better than the district average of 35.2% and far lower than schools like Southwest Middle (37.3%) or Chain Of Lakes Middle (43.2%).

However, a notable challenge is the "7th Grade Math Dip," where proficiency drops from 81% in 6th grade to just 36% in 7th grade—a widespread issue across all area schools, but Water Spring’s 7th-grade math score actually falls below the state average of 53%. This suggests the pre-algebra curriculum is a tough transition. While Water Spring is excellent, nearby Bridgewater Middle (88th percentile) consistently outperforms it in most subjects, creating a friendly rivalry. Overall, Water Spring offers a strong, efficient academic program with standout advanced math, though parents should be aware of the 7th-grade math hurdle.

Open Quote Terrible school. Non stop bullying from students and the faculty could care less. Oh, they’ll make it seem like they do, but the end result is the same. Private school is the only answer unfortunately. Close Quote
