Summary

Sunridge Middle in Winter Garden, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 1,108 students in grades 6-8, part of the Orange County School District. This school stands out for its consistent academic excellence, earning a 4-star rating and ranking in the top 20% of Florida middle schools over the past decade. Sunridge outperforms nearby schools like Lakeview Middle and Ocoee Middle in nearly every subject, with 8th-grade math proficiency at 78% compared to 40% at Chain Of Lakes Middle. It also excels in advanced coursework, with 100% proficiency in Geometry end-of-course exams, far exceeding district and state averages.

Sunridge benefits from a favorable student-teacher ratio of 17.8:1, lower than many peers like Hamlin Middle (20.2) and Bridgewater Middle (20.6), which likely supports its strong outcomes. Chronic absenteeism is notably low at 25.3%, compared to the district average of 35.2% and the 43.2% rate at Chain Of Lakes. While Sunridge is a top performer, it faces academic rivals in Hamlin Middle and Bridgewater Middle, which sometimes post slightly higher scores in specific areas like 7th-grade ELA. A notable trend across all area schools is a significant drop in 7th-grade math proficiency, with Sunridge falling from 80% in 6th grade to 51% in 7th, suggesting a curriculum-wide challenge.

Sunridge's per-student spending of $11,634 is higher than many high-performing peers but nearly identical to the lower-performing Lakeview Middle ($11,617), indicating that success is driven by effective resource use and school culture rather than just funding. The school's Free/Reduced Lunch rate has dropped sharply from 30.56% to 19.13% in two years, reflecting demographic shifts in the area. Overall, Sunridge is a stable, reliable choice for families, offering strong academics, low absenteeism, and excellent advanced coursework opportunities within a competitive cluster of western Orange County schools.

Open Quote Horrible School! School is full of Bullies and the officials don’t do anything besides have the kids sign a no contact contract which is a joke! Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter began attending SunRidge as a 6th grader when the school opened in 2012, and my son followed the next year. Being a parent, I understand how each parent wants the very best for his/her child, and with that in mind, I can unequivocally say that SunRidge is and has been nothing but the most positive of learning experiences for both of my children. The teachers are very involved, both inside the classroom and out for clubs and activities. The school administrators are accessible and do an excellent job in maximizing a positive learning environment. There is a deep sense of school pride among students and parents. I have had open lines of communication with the administrators as well as the teachers at all times. Mrs. Painter, the principal, is amazing with her email response time, and it would be very rare for an email to go unanswered from any teacher or from school staff. On the handful of occasions when that occurred, I usually received a call. My daughter will be going into 9th grade in the fall, and I can't think of any better preparation and support she could have received. I am grateful for SunRidge and its exceptional staff.
