Summary

Hunters Creek Middle in Orlando, FL, is a high-performing public school serving 1,057 students in grades 6-8, located in a growing area of Orange County where the student body has become increasingly affluent in recent years. This school stands out for its exceptional math program, with a 95% proficiency rate in Algebra 1 and a perfect 100% in Geometry—far exceeding district and state averages. While nearby schools like South Creek Middle and Freedom Middle struggle with math proficiency rates in the 40-50% range, Hunters Creek consistently delivers strong results, earning a 4-star rating in six of the last seven years.

One interesting pattern parents should know is the "7th grade math slump"—while 6th and 8th graders score 87% and 82% proficiency respectively, 7th grade math drops to 47%, below the state average. This suggests the school excels at accelerating top students into advanced courses but may need more support for students at the standard 7th-grade level. The school also benefits from low chronic absenteeism at 29.1%, significantly better than the Orange district average of 35.2% and much lower than nearby Westridge Middle (42.9%) and Judson B Walker Middle (43.4%).

Compared to other schools in the region, Hunters Creek is a clear standout. While Osceola County schools like Parkway Middle and Denn John Middle rank in the bottom 15% of the state, Hunters Creek has maintained a state percentile rank between 68 and 73 for five straight years. The school's free/reduced lunch rate has dropped dramatically from 47% to just 23.5% in two years, reflecting a demographic shift that supports its strong academic performance. For parents seeking a reliable, high-quality traditional public middle school in the Orlando area, Hunters Creek offers consistent excellence and a proven track record.

Open Quote Sorry to say this, but you will find very few caring, quality teachers at this school. The majority of them ride on high horses and scream at the kids, not to mention that when they send communication home it is riddled with spelling errors. How do they become teachers? Close Quote
