Summary

Robinswood Middle in Orlando, FL, is a large public school serving 985 students in grades 6-8 within the Orange County school district, where a majority of students (65%) come from low-income households.

Robinswood presents a fascinating contrast in academic performance. On one hand, it has a standout strength: its Algebra 1 End-of-Course exam proficiency rates are remarkably high, consistently outperforming both the district and state averages by wide margins (e.g., 80% proficient vs. 63% statewide in 2025-2026). This suggests a highly effective program for its top math students. On the other hand, the school struggles significantly with core grade-level instruction. Proficiency rates in standard English Language Arts and Math are consistently 20-30 percentage points below state averages. For example, 6th-grade math proficiency was just 32% compared to the state's 60%. This creates a "barbell effect" where the school excels at the top but struggles to raise achievement for the majority of its students. In contrast, nearby Gotha Middle (3.3 miles away) has proficiency rates that are often double those of Robinswood, while Innovations Middle Charter (1.45 miles away) faces even greater challenges.

A critical issue is chronic absenteeism, which has remained stubbornly high at 35-38% over the last three years—significantly above the state average of 31%. This is likely the single biggest barrier to improving overall academic performance. Furthermore, despite serving a high-needs population, Robinswood spends less per student ($10,598) than many nearby peers like Carver Middle ($14,670) and College Park Middle ($13,886), raising questions about resource equity. The path to improvement likely requires a two-pronged strategy: aggressively tackling chronic absenteeism while investing in core, grade-level instruction for all students.

Open Quote Terrible Terrible Terrible School. Early this year a student brought a gun to school and the principal kept it hidden from the parents. There have been cheating allegations on the FSA test and bullying and fights happen daily. Just type Robinswood Middle School into your search engine and see what comes up. Close Quote

Open Quote It's an okay school, not the BEST but it's also not the worst. My actual rating is 3.75. Close Quote

Open Quote There are a few children that belong in juvenile detention or some other type of secondary school. Bullying is rampant, meaning the incoming 6th graders do not stand a chance. Then there's faculty, not all, that are more concerned with their weaves and the latest fashion trends, than the welfare of the students. Everything rises and falls with Leadership and the orange county school district may want to reassess the leadership and faculty at Robinswood Middle School Close Quote
