Summary

Pinecrest Academy Four Corners is a K-8 school in Miami, FL, serving 583 students within the Lake district, and it presents a unique split personality: a strong middle school program that consistently outperforms the district, paired with a struggling elementary program and a high chronic absenteeism rate of 25.3%.

This school stands out from its neighbors for several reasons, not all of them positive. The most glaring issue is the chronic absenteeism rate, which, while improved from last year's 37.7%, is still dramatically higher than nearby schools like Sunset Elementary School (6.5%) and Somerset Academy Elementary School (South Miami Campus) (3.8%). The school also has a high student-to-teacher ratio of 22.4:1, much larger than South Miami K-8 Center (14.5:1) and Ludlam Elementary School (14.4:1). Per-student spending is also lower at $8,479, compared to over $17,000 at nearby Miami-Dade public schools.

Academically, the school shows a "Jekyll and Hyde" pattern. While middle school students shine—with 7th-grade math proficiency at 74% (vs. 45% district) and 7th-grade ELA at 78% (vs. 64% district)—elementary grades struggle significantly. For example, 5th-grade science proficiency is only 39% (vs. 93% at Sunset Elementary), and 8th-grade science has collapsed from 66% to 22% in just one year. With over 55% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the school serves a more economically diverse population than its top-performing neighbors, but its middle school success proves students are capable of high achievement. The key takeaway is that Pinecrest Academy Four Corners is underperforming its potential, especially in the elementary grades, where the achievement gap is most pronounced.

Open Quote This school has a lot of bullying and children with anger issues. They also have a terrible curriculum. They should use the Pinecrest lakes model to improve and have teachers that know how to teach age appropriate curriculum. Close Quote
